Located on the historic Silk Road, Kashgar has long been a hub for cultural exchange and traditional crafts, particularly pottery. My proposal conserves a former pottery workshop while transforming four adjacent vernacular houses on the earth plateau into an artist residency with living spaces, studios, a craft school, and a display shop. The residency creates a micro-community where local master craftsmen share their generational knowledge with artists from diverse backgrounds, ensuring the continuity of Kashgar’s craft traditions while fostering new forms of cultural exchange.
